Sarasota is rarely lacking in fun and interesting things to do, but the Sun Fiesta is the highlight of the year for many local residents. While the beaches, the shopping, and great food are all part of this Florida city (and a major part of their tourism), the locals look forward to the Sun Fiesta as a time to come together as a community and enjoy a weekend of entertainment for all ages.
The Sun Fiesta is hosted each year by the Women’s Sertoma Club of Venice, and the event originated in October of 1973. This time was chosen as a way for all Sarasota area residents to enjoy a “last hurrah” each year before the snowbirds headed back up north for the winter. This year’s 45th event is better than ever, with local restaurants, artists, musicians, and entertainers from in and around the Sarasota area coming out for a weekend with both their regular patrons, and all new clientele and tourists. There will be an area for kids to enjoy age-specific activities, bed races, a parade, and the crowning of Miss Sun Fiesta are all highlights of the weekend, with many more activities (like a Beer and Wine tent) included on each of the event’s days.
The Sun Fiesta is happening October 20-22 in Centennial Park of Venice.
